# What is a Proxy

A proxy is a server that acts as an intermediary between your device and the internet.\
Instead of connecting directly to a website, your traffic is routed through the proxy server.

This means websites see the **proxy IP address** instead of your real IP address, making it appear as if the request is coming from a different location.

When used together with **Gologin**, a proxy works alongside the browser fingerprint of a profile.\
Each profile can connect through a different proxy, helping websites recognize them as separate devices.

## Why using a proxy is important

Using a proxy is **crucial** when working with GoLogin.

Websites track user activity by analyzing both **browser fingerprints and IP address**.\
Even if you use different browser profiles, multiple accounts will still get linked by the same IP address.

Using a proxy allows each profile to operate from a different network location, reducing the chance that accounts will be associated with the same device.

## Where to get a proxy

Gologin supports both **third-party proxy providers** and **built-in Gologin proxies**.

You can connect proxies from external providers by entering the proxy credentials in the profile settings.

Gologin also offers built-in proxy options that can be configured directly inside the application.

For a list of recommended proxy providers, see [**Recommended proxy providers**](https://gologin.com/proxies/proxy-type/).
